NICS Hockey 6's at the Pavilion
17.4.2009
The inaugural ‘Civil Service Sixes’ hockey tournament was contested by local schools over two glorious sunny days at the Pavilion complex.
Sixes hockey is a new and exciting version of the sport, which takes place on a small pitch with six players in each team. Games are also much shorter in duration, which provides for a very open game, played at an exhilarating pace.
These tournaments are the beginning of an extremely exciting time for hockey at the Pavilion complex, with work due to commence on the construction of two new astro turf pitches for the 2009/10 season.
The under-12 boy’s cup, which took place on Tuesday 31st March, was shared between Campbell College and Sullivan Upper after an extremely exciting final finished in a draw. Campbell College also won the plate competition. Regent House and Wellington College also took part on the day and contributed to a very entertaining and enjoyable event.
The 1st XI tournament took place two days later, which was contested by Sullivan Upper, Bloomfield Collegiate, Strathearn, Belfast Royal Academy, Regent House and Wellington College, with each school entering two teams. Congratulations go to Sullivan Upper, who were recipients of a £200 voucher from Total Hockey after winning the cup competition. Winners of the plate competition were Regent House.
Many thanks go out to all the teachers who generously gave up their time to bring the teams along and for the members of Civil Service male and female hockey teams for refereeing on the day. A special thank you also to Total Hockey for sponsoring the event.
